Diesel hydraulic locomotives

D821 waits time at Bridgnorth on the afternoon of Saturday 11th September 2010.
-
D821 descends Eardington bank with the 15:40 Bridgnorth-Kidderminster on Saturday 17th September 2011.
-
Both of the surviving Warships, D821 and D832, are seen at Kidderminster Diesel Depot (SVR) on the morning of Sunday 20th May 2018.
-
D832 shunts D1015 at Kidderminster on the morning of Sunday 20th May 2018. The Western had failed near Foley Park tunnel
the previous evening.
-
On Saturday 12th September 2009 the SVR diesel diagram was in the hands of D1013, and the prospect of a blue Western in near guaranteed
sunshine was hard to resist. Here's Western Ranger climbing Eardington bank at 14:28.
-
Taken the same day as the previous shot. The afternoon train leaves Bridgnorth at 15:30, and was photographed descending Eardington
bank at 15:40.
-
D1015 heads a return Liverpool - Salisbury charter on Monday 21st July 2008. It was due to pass Bescot at 19:35, but arrived about a
minute after I did, at 19:27. It was held on the up main for a down coal going towards Walsall, and an up local from Walsall. This picture
was taken shortly after the re-start, at 19:32.
-
D1048 "Western Lady" had just detached from a Paddington train when this shot was taken at Birmingham New St. Almost certainly the 09:05 ex-Paddington
judging by the angle of the light. The loco number displayed in the headcode dates this to 1976, and as the boiler is blowing off steam it's
probably not summer.
-
D1062 arrives at Kidderminster on the morning of Saturday 25th July 2009. By chance D1062 was my very last Western for sight. I no longer
have the date, although it would have been summer 1972 or 1973. I do remember that it was at Plymouth station, and Courier had arrived from
Penzance. In those days many trains were re-engined at Plymouth, with buffet cars added to up services and removed from down ones.
-
D1062 at Bridgnorth on Saturday 29th August 2009. The LNER teak coaches were used with the Western, which rather spoils this otherwise
convincing BR(WR) scene. The combo is caught in a brief glimpse of sunshine waiting to depart with the 15:30 to Kidderminster.
-
D1062 waits at Arley to cross a southbound train. It was working the afternoon Kidderminster - Bridgnorth diesel service on
Saturday 29th August 2009. The GNR/LNER Teak coaches look great, but couldn't be much more of a mismatch with the BR(WR) loco.
-
On Tuesday 22nd April 2014 D1015 ran from Washwood Heath to Kidderminster to collect classmate D1062, and take it to Tyseley for
tyre-turning. This is 0Z62 Kidderminster - Tyseley, seen just south of the Hawthorns a few minutes early at 13:27. The clunk, clunk,
clunk of a serious wheelflat was very audible. This is an old stamping ground for Westerns, as seen in this
shot taken a couple of miles up the road at West Brom.
D1062 was withdrawn from traffic in August 1974, so has been in preservation for nearly 40 years. D1015 lasted a bit longer, nearly to
the end in fact, being withdrawn in December 1976.
-
D1062 climbs Eardington bank with the 15:23 Kidderminster - Bridgnorth. This shot was taken at 16:34 on Friday 2nd October 2015, during the
autumn diesel gala.
-
A heavily-stripped D7029 stands alongside D1062, its body up on jacks, inside Kidderminster Diesel Depot (SVR) on the morning of Sunday 20th May 2018.
-
7017 was the visiting loco at the GWSR diesel weekend on Saturday 26th July 2014. Here it is near Didbrook on the 09:35 Winchcombe - Laverton.
-
Another shot of the Hymek on Saturday 26th July 2014. It was attached to the rear of the 16:10 Cheltenham - Laverton at Toddington, and then
returned south with the 17:25 from Laverton. This train is seen here approaching Toddington at 17:30. E6036 had led to Laverton, and was on
the rear here, but its lack of visibility helps the photo.
-
The 17:25 Laverton only went as far as Toddington, and there was ample time to walk back to the car park and photograph it again while it stood in
the platform. This shot was taken at 17:38.
