57002 at Bescot
57002 leads five JJA ballast hoppers into Bescot at 13:14 on Wednesday 7th March 2018. This is 6G94 from Crewe, a train that has rarely got 57s in recent years. The last time 57s appeared with any regularity was the summer of 2015, when a single 57/3 was used intermittently. To the best of my knowledge the last of these was 57305 on Monday 28th September 2015. Since then the only instance of 57s that I can find was 57007+57002, which were used on Thursday 8th June 2017. In 2018 the staple traction has been 66s, but on the previous day 66430 was in trouble just north of Water Orton with 6D95 Bescot - Toton (it took nearly four hours to rescue). As a result it was no surprise that a different loco appeared on the 7th, but a single 57 wasn't expected.
